Somercotes Team Lifts Trophy In MAT Badminton Competition

The jubilant Somercotes Academy Badminton Team who won the TMAT Trophy.

Somercotes Academy beat off stiff competition from three other Academies to win the Tollbar MAT Badminton Competition. They were up against players from Louth, Cleethorpes and Tollbar Academies.

Chris Prendergast, Curriculum Leader for P.E. at Somercotes Academy, said: "The KS3 boys and girls badminton players thoroughly deserved to win this competition.

"I was extremely confident that the team would come back with the trophy as they have all trained extremely hard every week over the past term, and have shown excellent promise in their badminton lessons also.

"One of the most pleasing things is that many of these players didn’t play badminton before this year and have now started playing regularly outside of school, which is something as a P.E. Department we try hard to encourage when promoting the importance of physical activity."

The four TMAT teams who took part in the Badminton Competition are (l-r) Louth Academy, Cleethorpes Academy, Tollbar Academy and Somercotes Academy.
