Dear Parent/Carer

Ofsted Inspection - 27-28 November 2018

We have now received the final report from OFSTED following our inspection on 27 and 28 November 2018. The full report will be published on the OFSTED website in the coming days but you can view it on our website at: http://www.somercotesacademy.co.uk/ofsted.

If you would like a printed copy of the report, please ask at the Academy reception.

The grades that can be awarded by Ofsted are Outstanding (1), Good (2), Requires Improvement (3) or Inadequate (4). This was the first inspection that the Academy has had since it officially opened in November 2015. Ofsted rates Somercotes Academy as being "Good". This is a tremendous achievement and reflects the excellent progress we have made since Tollbar MAT have taken over. The feedback from parents during the inspection was overwhelmingly positive with inspectors stating that the "clear majority of parents who responded to Ofsted's online survey would recommend the school and believe it is well led and managed" and that "most parents who responded to Ofsted's survey expressed the view that their child was happy at school and felt safe."

The report recognises that investment from the Tollbar Multi-Academy Trust "has been instrumental in improving the school environment, the security of the site and the recruitment of high-quality staff." It also praises the "positive ethos and culture of the school." Inspectors identified that the "leadership of pupils with SEND is strong". Teaching is described as being "mostly of good quality" with some teaching judged as "exceptionally strong." The report recognises that "most pupils behave well and work hard" and that our governors are "highly skilled and knowledgeable."

I would like to personally thank parents for your continued support of the Academy and what we are achieving with your children. This excellent report reflects the hard work undertaken by staff, students and governors.

Medication

If your child requires medication during the school day, it is important that you complete an Academy medication form (available from Reception) and that when your child does bring in any medication it is clearly labelled and in the original packaging. This is particularly important for prescribed medication.

End of Term Arrangements

The Academy closes for the Christmas break at 3:15 on Friday 21 December and reopens on Monday 7 January 2019.

On behalf of all of the staff here at the Academy, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours faithfully
