Engineering Day Targets Women
Somercotes Academy students at the Women in Engineering event at Grimsby Institute. Kirsty Clode, Chair of Women Into Manufacturing And Engineering, watches students build a robot. They are: (l-r) Ellie Rusling, Ella Pickard, Grace Power, Charlotte Cooper, Chloe Taylor and Harriet Gilliatt.
Students from Somercotes Academy were urged to consider a career in Engineering during a special Women In Engineering event, held at Grimsby Institute.
Both locally and nationally there is a shortage of women in Engineering careers. The girls worked in a team and had to make a working robot from a kit with instructions. This was a challenging activity which really stretched the students. They had to use many skills. They were assessed on team work, leadership, neat work, resilience, critical thinking.
During the day the students listened to presentations made by women who have been successful in Engineering careers, including Kirsty Clode, Chair of Women Into Manufacturing And Engineering.
