As we near the end of the term, may I take this opportunity to thank you and your children for your support in what has been another successful term for the Academy. In October, we were delighted to find that Somercotes Academy has been ranked as the 4th best non-selective school in Lincolnshire, according to the most recent Government figures on Progress 8. This is a fitting reflection of the hard work of staff and students and we look forward to this year's results. This term, Somercotes students have represented the Academy in sporting and musical events.
Somercotes Skills (Year 7)
Parents of Year 7 students should be aware that their children are being asked to collect evidence towards three skill areas – team work, leadership and resilience. We believe that these are key areas which a focus on will benefit all students. Students have an individual booklet - please take the opportunity to discuss this with your child and encourage them to seek out opportunities to gain evidence against their progress in these areas.
We are becoming aware that an increasing number of parents are asking their children to catch school buses which they do not usually travel on and do not have bus passes for. For safeguarding reasons, it is important that students travel only on their designated transport. If there is an occasion where you have made alternative arrangements for your child's journey home, can you please make the Academy aware so that we can ensure that we know the whereabouts of each student.
Reading at Home
Research suggests that regular reading extremely important and helps children's progress across all subjects in the curriculum. We would ask you to support your child's progress by providing and checking that your son/daughter has reading materials available over the holiday period, this could be in the form of an appropriate book, newspaper or magazine. We would also like you to further support us by encouraging your son/daughter to read at home, on a regular basis, at least three evenings per week. May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support in this initiative.
Please see letter regarding the Lincolnshire Police scheme Operation Encompass.
