Somercotes Academy student Grace McDowall (12) won the Overall Youth category at the UK Aerial Performance Championships.

The Year 8 student competed in the championships, held in Mablethorpe, where she was also placed first in the Youth Silks category for the third year running. Grace also came second in the Youth Open category on Static Trapeze.

The UK Aerial performance Championships is one of the only national competitions specialising in the aerial arts. It has categories for all levels, from youths to professionals. The competition involves auditions across the UK in the Spring with only the top three from each category going through to the finals at the end of the Summer, along with the previous year's winners, who are invited back to defend their titles.

Grace said: "I really enjoy Aerial Performance. It takes a lot of practice but I was so proud to retain my title."
