Somercotes Academy GCSE students celebrate.


Somercotes Academy students are today celebrating their GCSE results with 74% achieving Grades 9-4 in English (a standard pass) and 59% achieving Grades 9-4 in Maths.

Under the new system, subjects have been marked from Grades 1-9, with a standard pass being a Grade 4 and a strong pass being a Grade 5. At Somercotes Academy, 52% of English students and 28% of Maths students achieved Grades 9-5 (a strong pass).

Individual subjects were also notable for their achievements including: Chemistry (100% of students achieved a standard pass rate and 68% a strong pass); Physics (92% achieved a standard pass and 50% a strong pass); and Biology (86% achieved a standard pass and 55% a strong pass.)

In Science, 82% of students achieved at least a standard pass (Grades 9-4); in History 65% achieved a standard pass; and in Geography 64% achieved a standard pass. One hundred per cent of students entered for the Physical Education BTEC Level 2 qualification also passed.

Ben Harris said: "I passed all 9 GCSE's. I'm very pleased with my results. Somercotes was a big improvement from Tennyson Mablethorpe. Better standard of teachers. Half term revision sessions were good. I'm going to Franklin College to do English, Law and Criminology."

Josh Sidaway achieved 9 GCSEs, including a Grade 9 in Physics and an 8 in Chemistry. He is pictured with his mum.


He said: "I'm really pleased and happy. I wouldn't have got the results without the help of Academy staff and my family. The teachers did all the extra revision lessons in their own time. I'm hoping to go to Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College to do Physics, Maths and History."
