Janet Russell is busy in Art with grandchildren Grace and James Russell at Somercotes Academy Grandparents' Day.
Grandparents made Christmas decorations, took part in Science experiments and then enjoyed a well earned cuppa serenaded by the Choir on their annual visit to Somercotes Academy.
Grandparents’ Day is an event which celebrates the close relationship between the students and their grandparents by allowing them to share the experience of a modern classroom environment.
Student Lucy Ann Bennett had grandparents in stitches as she demonstrated a Science experiment for them, and Gill Key enjoyed making decorations with her grandchildren, Owen and Aimee Hewson.
“It is really nice to be able to come into school and see how they are getting on. We have had a lovely time,” she said.
Caroline Yates, Somercotes Academy Principal, said: “It is always a pleasure to be able to welcome grandparents into the academy. They play such a big role in their grandchildren’s lives and the students get such a boost having them in school to see what they are doing.”
